James usually sleeps with a machine gun in his bed and keeps his laptops in his gun rack. But like any secret agent, he works discreetly: he is able to convey ideas and emotions only through gestures and facial expressions. When more is needed, he resorts to technology. His name is…
Nod. James Nod.
A news story read on his tablet one morning throws James Nod into the throes of a dramatic day. His job is to stop the financial chaos unleashed by a hostile group. His job as a father is to make sure his daughter gets a good education. And his job as a husband is to keep his relationship with his wife, Aio, warm. Clearly, his life isn't exactly easy.
The story of the day James saved the world is the basis of the show presented in front of over 120 guests. Network One Distribution, during the event Nodzaic – NOD Dealer's Meeting on September 11, 2015. The events the agent went through in 35 minutes involved over 100 interconnected devices in a single conference room, for one of the largest product demonstrations ever conducted. In Play in Romania. Through pantomime theater and IT solutions, the actors and the Koding team recreated real situations inconceivable without the use of technology.
Our job, the Koding team and our colleagues at NOD, was to make sure that the story covered all types of technical solutions in the demonstration. The second challenge was to exploit all the products at the manufacturer's parameters. To do this, we designed a series of scenes set in four areas: home, school, office, catering. We recreated, in real conditions, uses of the IT solutions specific to each area, from remote video surveillance of a burglar, to interactive education or querying turnover figures using accounting software. business intelligence. And for our pleasure, we went even further: we gave James Nod the ability to turn off all the monitors in the room using a smartphone.
Networking, from the team to UTP cables
To achieve the integration of James' story with the devices in the show, we spent the entire summer of 2015 brainstorming and testing products. During the week of the event, for three days and nights, we put the story, the wires and the microprocessors together. And on the morning of the show, James Nod saved the world from financial-banking chaos, while fulfilling his duties as a father and husband. How? Using SERVERS, NAS storage solutions, surveillance, BI software, horeca solutions, laptops, the latest phones. And especially his personal charm.
I learned a few important things.
You can never say you’ve rehearsed enough. Actors need to know their devices as well as their partners. For every key scene involving technology, there needs to be a backup or alternative solution. Every person on the team is essential. It helps a lot to be friends with your colleagues – especially when the pressure is on and the hours are long. If something can go wrong, it won’t. If something can be fixed, it will.
And we come to the most important lesson. It is essential to work with professionals, for two reasons. First: when you do something with passion and call on passionate people to help you, good ideas come incredibly easily. Second: in live, real-life situations, professionals are the ones who can keep situations and IT solutions complex in the predetermined scenario.
