Koding Tech Select Episode 11

It's Wednesday again and we don't know why we feel like time is getting shorter. Could it be the pandemic, working from home, or the fact that, due to restrictions, we've all limited our range of activities. Who knows? However, until we discover the cause, let's move on to our own.

So, if it's Wednesday it's Koding Tech Select, so LIVE on YouTube where we discuss the latest and most important technology news. So, let's get down to business! Find below a short preview of the news we'll be discussing today from 19.00, on KodingTech YouTube Channel.

  • What do South Africa, Tesla and PayPal have in common? You guessed it: Mr. Musk. Elon Musk. Wow. What about Tesla, PayPal and Elon Musk? Here’s a hint: it starts with “B” and ends in “itcoin”. Both companies have launched Bitcoin payments in the last 7 days. Coincidence or not, we expect more and more big names to head to this area of cryptocurrency and, maybe, maybe we’ll stop printing money for a while?. (Constructive?) criticism aside, let’s quickly take a look at how things are with Tesla and PayPal. We’ll take them one by one:

Tesla. We remember how, a month and a half ago, the BTC chart went up with the announcement of an investment Tesla in Bitcoin in the value of 1.5$ billion. In addition, a future possibility of paying for your Tesla in Bitcoin is also announced. Well, for a week, in the US, you can go and buy your Tesla with Bitcoin, with this possibility set to expand to more regions. Cool, right? What's even cooler is that Elon Musk announced that all Bitcoin collected by Tesla will be kept in the form of virtual currency and will not be converted. A decision that can be considered risky from the perspective of some so-called "business experts". But that saying goes, you don't risk, you don't win. Looking forward to seeing what's next!

PayPal. The preamble here was the PayPal Wallet, launched late last year, which gives you the ability to buy, sell and own a number of virtual currencies (not very many, to be honest – basically 4). The next step (done this week) was the launch of Bitcoin payments. But, it ain't that simple, ofc. You can only make Bitcoin payments through PayPal if you have Bitcoin in your PayPal Wallet, you can't transfer from other digital wallets. Happy PayPal-ing!

  • After announcing the possibility of having live transcripts of meetings on ZOOM, Microsoft puts AI to work and introduces live transcriptions for Teams. Basically, Teams is able to identify each speaker and capture audio ”near real-time”. A feature that Microsoft officials say is one of the biggest challenges in the industry. The good news in this case is that Microsoft will not use data from meetings to improve its AI. At least that's what the official statement says.
  • We all know that (almost) any phone we use has a “habit” of pulling data and sending it to various places. We also know that the two big players in the market – namely Google and Apple – are playing “advanced mode” with our data. What’s interesting? Following a new study, it seems that the gentlemen (and ladies, because we have to be politically correct) from Google collects from Android users 20 times more data than Apple collects from those who prefer iOS. Of course, there are parties that support these results and parties that attack them. For example, Google. Hard to guess, right? ? We are waiting for other similar studies to do one of the things we like, to analyze and give our opinion ?.
  • The fact that Cloudflare's Web Application Firewall blocks more than 57 million cyberattacks per day, protecting millions of web applications, is nothing new. What is new from them, however, is that they have launched an improved version of WAF. We're testing it out to see what it can do and will keep you updated.
  • Hot, hot news comes today from Vodafone: the first smart forest in Romania. Yes, you heard it right! Basically an AI that compares the sounds of chainsaws and axes and alerts foresters to whom it transmits the exact location where the suspicious activity is taking place. Thus, foresters can take action and catch illegal deforestation in the act.

Well, let's be positive and confident, and until proven otherwise, let's believe that all the actors involved in this endeavor are in good faith :).
