When you talk to someone on WhatsApp, the conversation is end-to-end encrypted, both on your phone and on the other person's phone. The problem arises when you back up to Google Drive or iCloud. So, if someone manages to gain access to your cloud account, can easily read these conversations. Thus, WhatsApp is working on the possibility of encrypting the information in the backup using a password that will be required in case of restoration. Happy happy joy joy!
Facebook, Google, Twitter, TikTok, Telegram – sued by Russian authorities, for not complying with their demands to remove posts urging children to take part in anti-Putin protests. Who's right?
There may be problems with SMS authentication with MFA. Why? Let's start from the beginning. Distributed Ledger Technology is a blockchain-based system. Any company that does marketing or sms/voice communication must be registered in DLT starting June 1, 2020, to keep spam under control. Where does the problem arise? It seems that there were problems with the implementation of the technology and, thus, many users who were waiting for SMS with validation codes to log in to platforms, or to make payments, they stayed outside. Isn't that nice??
I said in one of the 3 editions of Koding Connect the ABC of Cybersecurity that the biggest vulnerability is between the chair and the monitor. A group of hackers has found a much more interesting method to obtain information about companies. They have 'broken' the infrastructure of a video surveillance company, gaining access to over 150,000 live feeds. Among the entities that have been indirectly 'hacked' are hospitals, schools, police stations, Tesla, Equinox and Cloudflare. Do we need many more signs to realize that the well-known "it's coming" has turned into "it's happening"??
Gab has been hacked. Again. Why?! Well..pretty simple. It seems that every place and place (whether digital or not) that does not obey the rules of manipulation must be cut off at the root. Long live freedom! We know that mainstream media catalogs this platform as a paradise for Donald Trump supporters. For us it's much simpler: it's a place where there is (still?) freedom of expression (no porn allowed, but we have to leave some space for pornhub as well). These guys really have a purpose, a mission, some ideals. Something rarely seen these days. Leaving aside the choice not to use the cloud at all (although it involves more work – another thing to appreciate, the desire to make the world better through effective work, not waiting for a miracle to happen – open ur damn eyes, millennials!), we like that they don't give up the fight even though they are a continuous target of various so-called "hackers" (we see u, guys and it's not cool at all). As some would say, stand your ground, it's sacred. We (and here we speak from the core of the Koding philosophy) choose to bow down to the founders of Gab and everyone who lends their shoulder to this project and any other project of this kind, because they are living proof that we still have a chance to regain our freedom (have we ever really had it?!). So, bring it on! Signed, some people who like freedom.
Also in the series of wonderful things of 2020, we have the topic of Emotet. There has been a lot of talk about what it is and what it does in recent months. A lot. If you are still not clear, find on our Youtube channel some great discussions at Koding Connect – The ABC of Security. What's new on this topic? Two days ago it appeared an in-depth analysis of the Emotet attacks, the effects of which are starting to appear. The conclusion with which the article ends highlights the scale with which these attacks were prepared. Pretty accurate we would say..
