Security by Design – Koding's approach to the challenge called GDPR

If you know us, it's no surprise that we do things differently. And not just for the sake of being different, but out of the principle that we treat you the way we like to be treated: with attention, openness, and respect offered in a relaxed context.
This is the atmosphere in which we organize Koding Connect events, evEvents in which, while we thematically expose practical aspects of business technology, we create a context of connection and collaboration based on synergies.
So, when we were repeatedly asked about how we are preparing for the entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation, we decided to dedicate such an event as Koding Connect to answer these questions in a comprehensive and effective way. And in addition to the conversation around this topic, we presented solutions on which we use both for ourselves and for the clients who have entrusted us with this mission in their companies.
The often discouraging discourse surrounding the much-discussed topic made us notice the need for a different type of approach, one that comes naturally to us, because part of Koding's DNA involves solving challenges by design (proactive, structured, and integrated) as opposed to the reactive approach in which temporary and unsustainable solutions are found every time a problem becomes critical.
The presentations given by us and our guests brought concrete and applicable answers in the context of the new regulation. However, more than thatAnd, they broadened and enriched the perspective, in order to transform the GDPR "problem" into an opportunity to use this moment as a catalyst for optimizing business processes and thus bringing added value to the company.
Thus, I looked at this topic from several angles.
On the one hand, a technical one, in which we showcased existing solutions on the market, which Koding uses with confidence to align with GDPR regulations:
 To understand features integrated into the solution Microsoft 365 that solve IT security issues, we invited Marius Dănescu, Product Manager at Microsoft, to present to us which tools (which you may already have) can perform these functions.
 Andrei Avădănei, CEO of BitSentinel and founder of DefCamp, informed us about the most common 90% IT security issues and gave us ideas on how they can be solved with 5% effort.
 And to identify security breaches in the IT infrastructure, we were presented with the Security Checkup diagnostic solution developed by Check Point.
On the other hand, we looked at the GDPR topic from a business perspective, or business strategy, which is why we presented solutions and models with which companies can benefit from Security by Design, integrated into the concept of Business as a Service.
 Alin Dobra, CEO of Bunnyshell, explained to us the ways in which Digital Marketing will be shaped by the entry into force of the GDPR and gave us examples of how marketing can be applied correctly.
 To exemplify how the GDPR topic can be viewed as an opportunity to integrate IT security into the Business as a Service concept, Silviu Chiran, Managing Partner Koding, presented a model of integrated use of business technologies, which, among other advantages, also has the ability to protect personal data in any company.
 The Blue Ocean Strategy, presented with generosity and humor by Dan Mocanu, was an opportunity to see in action how a counterintuitive approach to business strategy can lead a business into an area devoid of competition.
To further emphasize the practical aspect of the event, we made some solutions available, such as cloud architecture management (Bunnyshell) or IT infrastructure diagnostics (Security Checkup), to be implemented free of charge after the event, for a limited number of interested companies.
The event continued with the invitation to make secure human connections in a relaxed networking context, an opportunity that we were happy to see how affinities were formed and collaboration opportunities were identified among our guests.
If you've read this far, but don't know us and from what you've learned so far, you think you'd like it because you appreciate the different way we do things, we're sure you'll find a way to contact us on the Koding website.
