This article is not intended to be a eulogy for freshly ironed shirts and fancy ties, but rather an attempt to open our eyes to the idea that certain tools have specific tasks as their objective.<\/p>\n

Just as you wouldn't take a Ferrari off-road or a G-Class on the track, you'll see that some gadgets are created for specific types of customers.<\/p>\n

To understand how computer technology has evolved over the past 50 years, let's look back at the first computers used by humans. For example, the Apollo 11 Guidance Computer, and I use this example for a reason\u2014we just celebrated the 50th anniversary of man's first steps on the moon\u2014had 11 million times less memory than a typical iPhone. To put that into perspective, the phone you own has the processing power to run 120 million missions to the moon at the same time, which is impressive considering how much we've gained from silicon chips.<\/p>\n

OK, so how do we use the gadgets we have? First of all, we use them to connect to this magical thing that is the internet. In January 2019, 4.4 billion people were active on the internet, 3.5 billion of them used social media\u2026 so many of us, a lot of us, use Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. In 2018, 52.2% of internet traffic was generated by mobile phones. Does this mean that PCs are dying? No way, if most of the time we use our phones for content consumption, computers are used every day for work. With their help we produce content in a million forms for our clients, either inside or outside an organization.<\/p>\n

Back to the topic, is any computer suitable for content creation? In principle, yes, but not every computer can be used 8 hours a day, 250 days a year for this. Computer brands invest millions every year to develop new tools to improve the experience of using computers, from better keyboards to different ways of authentication, from premium alloys for the case and chassis to the latest cooling technologies. This may sound fancy, but it's actually simple and I'll explain why:<\/p>\n

  1. SMB and Business laptops have anti-glare displays, they don't have the vivid colors typical of glossy displays, but when placed in front of a light source (a window or a light bulb), they won't tire your eyes.<\/li>\n
  2. SMB and Business laptops have chassis made of magnesium or other alloys that allow them to withstand strong mechanical shocks without the motherboard suffering.<\/li>\n
  3. SMB and Business laptops most often have carbon, magnesium, or titanium casings, materials that don't bend or break like plastic.<\/li>\n
  4. Business laptops have docking ports that make office life easier when used with docking stations. You no longer have to plug and unplug all the wires when you need to move your laptop around in a meeting or conference.<\/li>\n
  5. SMB and Business laptops can be opened to a 180-degree angle, which means that if you hit the screen on a table, for example, the hinges won't break. By the way, the hinges are also stronger, made of magnesium.<\/li>\n
  6. Premium processors on Business laptops have TPM and vPro, Wikipedia is your friend if you want to learn more about it. Let's just say that at least these two features make life a lot easier for IT departments.<\/li>\n
  7. SMB and Business laptops often have fingerprint and smart-card readers for faster and more secure authentication, Consumer laptops do not offer this benefit.<\/li>\n
  8. A very important thing, SMB\/Business laptops can be configured with an improved warranty, for Dell \u2013 NBD (Next Business Day), for Lenovo \u2013 On Site. As you probably guessed, this means that if you have a problem with your laptop (it does happen), it is repaired much faster than in the case of a Consumer laptop, sometimes even the next day.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
